Best in the series, yet
Perhaps because the setting was away from the Drake Sister's famous home and all the other sisters, but I found this one to be one of the best in the series. Finally, the reader gets to devil deeper into Ilya Prakenskii, the bodyguard, the killer, the mobster? Or is he? We just didn't know. Well, after reading this book, we now know all there is to know about Ilya, even the fact that he has a very sweet sense of humor.

I even liked reading about Joley and her band members. It was just so nice to get away from all the sisters. There are just too many of them and they are all too much alike in personality, it gets confusing. Separately, the novel flows much better.

It's Joley's Turn
Rock and roll superstar Joley Drake loved to sing but hated touring. Touring had an adverse affect on the band. Her "boys" as she called them, were too easily temped by the drugs, alcohol, and women that were so readily available. Joley didn't party. As one of the magical Drake sisters she could not and would not poison her body.

Joley was not happy. Part of it was watching her band members slowly spiral downward, but the biggest factor was Ilya Prakenskii. Like Joley, Ilya had magical talents. At their last meeting, Ilya used his skills to mark her and now she couldn't get him out of her mind. She would not succumb to temptation. Rather than use his talent for the greater good, Ilya was a hit man. Joley would not give herself to a man like that.

Unable to sit alone in her tour bus for another night, Joley headed to a party claiming she had to deliver a message to one of the band members. Joley knew better than to attend one of Nikitin's parties. He was Ilya's boss and a major player in the Russian mob. Nothing good would come from it. Attending the party was a mistake. She saw several underage teens with members of her road crew, spotted her band members compromising their personal relationships with groupies, and then there was Ilya. She finally gave in and offered herself to him and her turned her down!

With her life already in the toilet, it took a turn for the worse. The underage girls spotted at the party had disappeared and she feared someone on her road crew was involved. When she started asking questions, the threats against her person intensified. The murder made to look like a Russian mob hit capped it. With his bosses blessing, Ilya took over as Joley's personal body guard.

Knowing Ilya had an ulterior motive didn't matter. People were dying and girls were disappearing. Joley needed help. She would find a way to deal with her attraction to Ilya. He shunned her once. It would not happen again. She would not sacrifice her heart and soul on the alter of lust, not even for a night with Ilya Prakenskii.

Turbulent Sea is the latest Drake sister romantic suspense. The relationship between Ilya and Joley has been stirring for awhile. While the story line if full of action and the subplots good, the plot is a little thin. It was the turbulent relationship between Ilya and Joley that kept me glued to my seat and turning the pages. It's a great romance if that's what you're looking for, I highly recommend this book. If you are looking for a great suspense, I'd look elsewhere.

Disappointed
I've been enjoying the series and was looking forward to this book. The plot took a hard turn from what was written about these characters in the previous books. Nikitin goes from being obsessed with Jolie to this just being a cover for his affair with a band member. Didn't ring true. The Reverend RJ goes from being a real threat to a plot line fill-in. The characters were pretty shallow and the writing was repetitive. Not as enjoyable as the other books in the series.

Ilya and Joley finally!
I love this book! The chemistry between these two is at times difficult for them both to understand. They often end up hurting each other by doing or saying the wrong thing-how many times does that happen in real life? How can you trust each other if you feel you can't trust yourself? This is the fundamental question that both Ilya and Joley must answer before they can truly commit to each other; and then of course there are Joley's "dark desires". Many who have already have written reviews seem to have a hard time grasping where Christine Feehan was going, wondering if it was possibly a BSDM reference. I have a different idea on the statement she was trying to make. In our society women are, generally speaking, supposed to want a relationship where they take the lead just like the man and decisions are a 50/50 affair, especially if you're a superstar...But what if you had a dark desire for a man who would be dominating and who would take care of you? Who would tell you what to do? Who would cherish you; treat you the way you really want to be treated? Like Joley said to Hannah in "Turbulent Sea", "I despise men weaker than me and hate men who are stronger than me. That pretty much leaves me nowhere to go." I feel that deep inside some women want the man who will take control, be loving and gentle, yet ruthless and arrogant all at the same time; the problem is Joley likes things that she feels she's not supposed to like, she loves Ilya's dominating ways and that's what causes her a problem. Joley has to learn just like all her other sister's to accept herself for who she is. The truth of the matter finally comes to light and Joley learns -In order to truly belong to someone you have to love and accept yourself as you truly are. This was an amazing book! I can barley wait for Jackson and Elle's book! Keep up the good work!
