Great Book -- Lousy Condition
I bought this book NEW for my wife, a second grade teacher. She loves it, and started using it right away. In fact, she was so excited about it that she wouldn't let me return it for an undamaged copy. Although it was clearly new, somewhere along the line a 1/4" bite had been chomped out of the book's spine. Nothing that some heavy duty book binding tape couldn't repair, but I expect better when paying for a new book.

A Must
I am in the process of using this book and it has been wonderful. It has strategies and lessons to get your literacy block off and running. It provides structure and time to work with small groups. I have seen and worked in classes after the Daily Five has been established and it is fantastic. I highly recommend this book.

Must Have
This book is a must have for a new teacher and this book is a must have for a veteran teacher. This book will walk you through your daily 90-120 minutes literacy block. After reading it, I requested that my fellow teachers purchase it and we do a school wide book club. ALL of us love it and find it extremely useful. This book was a great recommendation from RealWriters blog...a blog for K-12 teachers as well as professional published authors and writers.

Superb resource for Balanced Literacy!
"The Daily Five" is an excellent, teacher-friendly resource that can help any early childhood teacher create balanced literacy within their classroom environment. Their lessons, structure, and establishment of the five essential components to literacy instruction are easy to follow and classroom -tested. I encourage you, as a veteran teacher myself, to purchase "The Daily Five" to find new opportunities and resources for success in a balanced literacy program. It is a great, easy read for any teacher!

A Must Read
This is a wonderful book that not only teaches great methods in language arts, but also explains how to control the classroom management issues. If your goal is to have independent workers and a superb reading/writing program, this book lays it all out step-by-step in a very "easy to read" text. Loved it!!
