Very helpful book, especially if you don't even know what a baby needs at all. I was clueless and used this to figure out what to register for. Also bought several items specially because of this book (crib, bouncy chair, etc). The only thing I disagree with is their stroller ratings, they are very biased against Graco which in my opinion is based on dated experiences. Definitely worth the $$ and a great gift for a friend who has just told you they are expecting!!!

As a first-time parent, I found this book helpful in suggesting what I do and don't need and when. I do wish they had used the supposed wealth of parent feedback on their website to list: which strollers and car seats are purchased and liked the most, and which are the best baby slings (and where to buy them cheaper). They recommend skipping the travel system and using a Graco infant seat with just a stroller frame...but this doesn't save you money, as the lower end Graco travel system costs about the same as those two items! Also, the MacLaren frame ($70) is the only one that didn't have problems with tipping over or broken wheels according to my reasearch. Still, I appreciate what they are doing and did glean some useful information.

Very informative. I basically followed it to buy all baby stuff. The content is a little bit overwhelming due to a less perfect organization, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars.

After subscribing to Consumer Reports for a year and hoping for relevant reviews on current products, this book continued to be our very best option. We had purchased an earlier version as we prepared for the arrival of our first child and it cut through the clutter. It's especially helpful to see their test results on items like cribs and car seats with which we simply had no prior experience.

This book was very helpful; particularly for the first time Moms. I found it a great shopping and gift registry guide for both quality and price. It also helped to pare down the suggested gift registry and 'must-have' lists that the major retailers provide to the expectant Mother. Those lists appear to contain an over abundance of items that you really don't need.
